In 2022 we are off to Spain and Portugal, two countries we have yet to tick off our vanlife bucket list… We loosely mapped out our route, but despite our name, this time we didn’t really have a plan. Navigating post-brexit travel rules, we plan to spend 7 months exploring Europe and beyond in our home on wheels. In the summer of 2021 set off on our second big trip. After a year of hard work, we now earn enough to sustain our simpler life and also save for the future. We had never worked remotely before van life, but we both set up as freelance writers and designers to earn money while we travel. During our conversion, we kept the outside of the van looking like a builder’s van as much as possible so that we look stealthy in places where wild camping isn’t tolerated as much. To save money while we travel, we rarely stay at campsites and wild camp as much as possible. Over 5 months we completed an 11,000 mile adventure across 15 countries… We had built the perfect place to isolate ourselves from the world, so set off into Europe, tackling border closures and lockdowns along the way. Despite quitting our jobs just before the start of a global pandemic, we managed to make the most of an unusual 2020 and went ahead with travelling in our van.
